QUARTER, LARGS
CLIENT – Mr & Mrs Pearson
New-build country house with outbuildings replacing derelict farmhouse on clifftop coastal site to the north of Largs. Scale and massing related to demolished (listed) building and informed site location and general form.
Design approach was to maximise views, minimise energy use and create a building that reflects the prominence of the site. The solution was a hybrid steel / timber frame structure comprising of a single two storey block with bays to the west under a pitched roof. The two storey section is linked to a single storey utility and garage block mimicking the previous house arrangement.
All living areas and most bedrooms have dual aspect towards the River Clyde. External materials are natural stone, glass, insulated render and slate. Mains gas space and water heating supplemented with solar thermal panels and LED lighting systems.
Constructed by a main contractor after a single stage selective tendering process and subsequent interview process using SBCC JCT Standard Form of Building Contract with Quantities.
